DFA: Indonesia agreed to postpone Veloso's execution 'indefinitely'
Duterte arrived in Jakarta late Thursday after attending the ASEAN Summit in Laos the previous day.
Duterte and Indonesia President Joko Widodo talked about the case the Veloso during a meeting Friday afternoon.
Duterte was tight-lipped one the specifics of what were discussed, however, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay said in a statement that the Indonesians have agreed to extend the postponement of Mary Jane Veloso's execution 'indefinitely'.
Mary Jane Veloso is out of execution schedule indefinitely.
This is not an urgent issue as of now, let’s finish the process. Her scheduled execution has been deferred because she would be testifying in the deposition case against her illegal recruiter. After prosecuting the illegal recruiter who are the main principals here and if it turns out in the trial in the Philippines that Mary Jane is a victim then at the point we can ask for clemency soon," said DFA Secretary Perfecto Yasay.Duterte will be in Indonesia for 24-hours. This serves as an extension of the bilateral meeting by the two countries which commenced at the ASEAN Summit in Laos.
Mary Jane Veloso is a Filipina convicted for drug smuggling in Indonesia. She was supposed to be executed last year, until Indonesia President Joko Widodo called off the execution.
