Duterte to OFWs: I perfectly understand your plight, this government is ready to help you

Returning OFWs repatriated by the government from the Middle East were welcomed by President Rody Duterte at NAIA.

OFW Gerry Ancheta narrated the horrors they've experienced with the previous Philippine government officials visiting to check on them.

"Those who visited us in the past only made promises and didn't come back. They were only there for photo ops. They didn't really help us," Gerry Ancheta said in Filipino.

Ancheta was working in a construction firm since 2006, but when the firm went through financial troubles in 2013, he was laid off. He immediately wanted to go back home, but wasn't able to. His mirrors the plights of a thousand more OFWs affected by economic meltdown being experienced in Saudi Arabia.

President Duterte immediately ordered the repatriation of the OFWs as soon as he assumed office on June 30. The President earlier allotted over 200 Million pesos for their speedy repatriation.

Speaking to the repatriated OFWs, President Duterte pleads them to 'just be patient' as his government works to fix the country's economy and hopefully provide jobs for everyone.

The government will also provide them financial assistance and cash loans to help them start their own small businesses.

"I am already starting with small and medium enterprises. We've poured money to fund these initiatives. You can loan cash," said President Duterte.

The President also promised to shoulder their children's education expenses.

This move prompted ordinary citizens to air their praises for the regard the President gives to the sufferring OFWs.
Walang pera ang makakadrawing nito. #Authentic
For those wondering about why Duterte arouses so much passion and loyalty... check this out. Kailangan kasi maunawaan ang hugot, saan nanggaling, bakit ang lalim ng sakit at galit.
Veteran journalist Inday Espina-Varona said in a Facebook post.

OFWs abroad have nothing but high praises for the government for its swift action to the persisting problem, something they see as a complete contrast to the previous administration's inaction.
