Abu Dhabi OFWs instrumental in Kerwin Espinosa's arrest

Alleged top drug lord Kerwin Espinosa has been finally caught by the Philippine authorities after months of massive manhunt.

Espinosa went into hiding right after President Duterte himself identified him as one of top drug lords operating in the Philippines.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa revealed on Monday that at 2am Manila Time, operatives from PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group and Abu Dhabi Police have conducted an operation in Abu Dhabi that led to the arrest of Kerwin Espinosa.

"With the help of Abu Dhabi police, just this morning 2 a.m. our team arrested Kerwin Espinosa," he said.

He also revealed that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were instrumental in Espinosa's arrest.

“Mayroong nag-tip sa atin. Mayroong tumawag na mga OFW doon sa Abu Dhabi at nagsasabi na nandyan malapit sa building nila nakatira si Kerwin kaya nag-dispatch agad ako ng three-man team,” he said.

Dela Rosa said the PNP sent an anti-illegal drugs team headed by Senior Superintendent Albert Ferro to coordinate with the Abu Dhabi police in the operation against the younger Espinosa.

“Lumipad agad sila doon and pagdating is nag-coordinate sila sa Abu Dhabi police, also with the help of our police attache, si Senior Supt. Magalona. And doon siya nag-facilitate sa coordination hanggang nahuli 'yung suspect na si Kerwin,” he said.

"Hindi sila pwede makasali sa actual arrest kaya nag-monitor lang sila. Ang humuli talaga Abu Dhabi police," he added.

He also revealed Interpol's help in the operation.

He also added that government officials are now clearing all the necessary documents for Espinosa's travel to the Philippines.

Espinosa has been the subject of an intense manhunt after his name cropped up in the drug list of President Duterte in July. Also included in the list was Kerwin’s father, Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr.
