Supreme Court sides with Duterte, allows Marcos burial at LNMB - Noah Luchansky

In a historic decision, Supreme Court of the Philippines has decided to junk the petitions filed by former Bayan Muna Representative Satur Ocampo, et al.; Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman, et al.; former Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chairwoman Loretta Ann Rosales, et al., former senator Heherson Alvarez, et al.; and Zaira Baniaga, et al. seeking to halt the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB).
Voting 9-5, the high court dismissed all seven cases challenging the proposed burial of the former strongman Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, two independent Supreme Court sources confirmed to CNN Philippines.
During the election campaign, President Duterte promised to allow Marcos' burial at the LNMB. He argues Marcos is qualified to be buried there simply because there's no law prohibiting it. He said he will do it "not because he was a hero, but because he was a Filipino soldier."

The Libingan ng mga Bayani was established in 1947 to pay tribute to Filipino soldiers and fallen heroes, and to serve as a final resting place for former Philippine presidents, war veterans, notable government statesmen, dignitaries, and national artists.
Earlier, Duterte appealed to the Supreme Court to rule on the issue based on the law and not on emotions.

He added that regardless of its ruling, the Supreme Court's decision be followed.
