Duterte man DA secretary Manny Piñol rushes to save Project NOAH, vows to find funds asap

Many were stunned when the news broke about the apparent termination of Project NOAH (Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) due to lack of funding.

Project NOAH Executive Director Dr. Alfredo Mahar Lagmay appealed to President Duterte for the continuation of the project. Dr. Lagmay said didn't give further details, but on a tweet last he divulged that some people have been trying to kill the project since its inception 2 years ago.

"2 years ago ay pinapatay na po kami by some officials of the government. Long before Duterte's term."

The news immediately caught the attention of Agriculture secretary Manny Piñol and vowed to do everything to salvage the project as the agriculture department critically needs the program.

Project NOAH is the Philippines' primary disaster risk reduction and management program under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Here's Secretary Piñol's full statement.

SAVE PROJECT NOAH!

By Manny Piñol

I read this report today that Project NOAH, a hazard and risk monitoring program under the Dept. Of Science and Technology, will be stopped by the end of February.

This would be a disaster especially now that the country experiences one flooding after another.

The Department of Agriculture needs Project NOAH and I will do everything to save it.

Initially, I will talk to President Rody Duterte and ask him to allow the DA to take over Project NOAH.
