After citing fake news in a message to UN, #LeniResign trends number 1 on Twitter

Leni Robredo rocked the entire country after she sent a video to the UN to report about the alleged 'palit-ulo' scheme happening in the Philippines.

Her supporters cheered on her until the news came out disproving her claims. It turns out, what she reported to the UN was fake.

Malacanang Palace has since refuted her claims saying: "While she has the right to speak freely on matters of public concern, she also has the responsibility to be careful with her statements especially avoiding unfounded allegations from questionable sources."

Major national broadsheets like The Manila Times didn't hold back and called her a liar.

The Philippine cyberspace immediately went gaga over the scandal that she put herself and the office of the Vice Preisdent into.

I mean, how could a sitting Vice President lie to the world just to smear the President? Does she intend to grab the Presidency from President Duterte? There could be no other reason.

As expected, many Filipino netizens took to social media to air their disappointment.

Leni Robredo has NO respect, not for Rodrigo Duterte, Philippine President, who won by the biggest margin, but to us, the 16 to 21 million voters who put him there. And to the many more who weren't able to vote but has found hope in him.

You have no respect for us who took the time to campaign for him and voted for him, spent our own money on tarpaulins, ballers, shirts, posters just so we could convince others to vote for him. You have no respect for the precious time we spent fighting for him. You have no respect for the process of democracy, you power hungry, credit grabbing, fake news spreading, divisive, arrogant, useless wench. #LeniResign

Another one said "I know how Leni fools herself into thinking that people support her. She thinks all her haters are pro Marcos supporters. That's what she and her followers say, to generalize everyone who despise her: "Oh, they just love BBM so they hate Leni."
Leni Robredo, just so you know, you are the reason that anti and pro Marcos people have finally agreed on one thing. Such a disgrace.
Even if I voted for you, and even if I hate the Marcoses with a passion, I know that BBM has a valid reason to call for a recount. Hindi kami lahat pro Marcos. Mauntog ka sana sa katotohanang kinamumuhian ka ng karamihan. At alam na alam ng mga tao mo iyon. ASA KA MAGING PRESIDENTE. ASA KA. #LeniResign"

On Thursday evening, the hashtag #LeniResign became the number one trending topic on Twitter Philippines.

Given its popularity these days, savvy Filipinos created Beauty and the Beast inspired memes and put Leni Robredo on it alluding to Leni's devious character.

Memes shared by Jel Gueco on Facebook.

Here are more comments from Netizens.

The vice president has crossed the line. I join the call for her removal from office for acts inimical to the interest of the Filipino people. This woman and her cohorts are traitors .
#OustLeni by all means necessary.
#Labanleni keep it up. Go to Washington and the Vatican too.

Tama na. Sobra na. Palitan na. #ImpeachLeni #oustLeni

It's going to be interesting to see how she handles the firestorm she started now. It's utterly amazing how this woman can be so stupid.

She has now been exposed for what she really is. Behind that quaint facade lurks an evil woman who will not stop at anything to achieve her goal of becoming President.

Robredo is not a puppet. She's a conspirator.

That stupid, destructive, malicious video of ambisyosang palaka is said to be presented in a United Nations session in Austria. Today.

You have crossed the line! You are destroying our country and our future!

You are the ultimate bringer of fake news in your desperate effort to overthrow a duly elected President.

You've shown the Filipinos how you do not really care for the people and for the country.

Better retract your distorted, ill-informed statements now, lest be ready to face the people's fury!
