Strangers offer water, food and kindness as people flee ground zero Marawi City

On Tuesday afternoon, armed group with ISIS affiliations have stormed the Islamic City of Marawi and seized vital government and civilian installations prompting harsh response from the government.

President Duterte cut short his official state visit to Russia and immediately went home. "Don't be too afraid, I'm coming home," Duterte said as he announce his declaration putting the entire island of Mindanao under Martial rule.

While the situation in Marawi City has stabilized since the onset, many members of the Maute terror group are still at large, thus continuing operations to capture the remaining members are still ongoing.

According to authorities, among the fatalities were 5 soldiers and 2 policemen, who sought to flush out Maute and Abu Sayyaf bandits that torched and occupied several vital installations on Tuesday. Twenty-one state troops meanwhile were wounded, ABS-CBN's Chiara Zambrano reported.

Thirteen extremists meanwhile were killed in the skirmishes.

Sporadic firefight between government troops and the terrorists go off prompting civilians to flee to the neighboring city of Iligan.

In the wake of the horrifying tragedy, stories of heroism, big and small, have begun to emerge.
Iliganons are going out of their usual ways to offer passers by free food, water and kindness to people who are fleeing Marawi City.

Tapos inuuna ninyo yung kabastusan at kaguluhan.

Sino ulit kayong magugulo? Ano kayo sa lipunan natin? Politiko kamo kayo? Media kamo kayo? Opisyal kamo kayo? Concerned citizens kamo kayo? Saan kayo concerned?

While many people in Luzon can't help but politicize the current situation in Marawi, people in Mindanao continue to voice out their sympathy and support for the people of Marawi.

It's the Mindanaoans telling us: "We got your back, people of Marawi!"
