SWS: Most Pinoys believe Rody can fulfill promises

MANILA, Philippines - Almost one year since assuming the presidency, one in two Filipinos still believes President Duterte will be able to fulfill most, if not all, of the promises he made during the campaign.

A survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) from March 25 to 28 showed that 53 percent of the 1,200 respondents expect Duterte to fulfill all or most of his promises.

The remaining 47 percent said they expect him to fulfill a few or none of his promises.

But SWS said the number of those who are optimist that Duterte can fulfill most of his promises dropped from 63 percent in June and 56 percent in September last year.

On the other hand, the number of those who said that he will fulfill only a few or none of his promises grew from 37 percent in June and 44 percent in September last year.

Except in Mindanao, the number of people who said that they expect Duterte to fulfill most or all of his promises declined since the recent survey in September.

It fell by 13 points in Metro Manila (from 58 percent to 45 percent) and 11 points in the rest of Luzon (from 56 percent to 45 percent).

It slightly fell in the Visayas (from 51 percent to 49 percent), while it increased by 13 points in Mindanao (from 62 percent to 75 percent).

Duterte’s optimism rate was steady among socioeconomic classes, except among Class D which dropped by five points (from 58 percent to 53 percent).

It slightly increased among Class ABC (from 47 percent to 49 percent) and barely moved among Class E respondents (from 52 percent to 51 percent).

Optimism rose among respondents in rural areas (from 52 percent to 55 percent), but significantly fell among those in urban areas (from 59 percent to 50 percent).

It also slightly dropped among men (from 56 percent to 52 percent) and women (from 57 percent to 54 percent) respondents.

SWS said optimism is higher among those who trust the President or was satisfied with his performance since assuming office.

In contrast with former presidents, 44 percent were optimist that Benigno Aquino III would fulfill most or all of his promises a few months after election. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo obtained a lower 19 percent months after she took over as president in 2001.

The survey has an error margin of +/- three percentage points.
