Maria Ressa's Fake News: Rappler urges diabetic Filipinos to donate blood

Rappler says diabetics on insulin can donate blood. One of the commenters objected, citing WHO guidelines on blood donation:

"Individuals with diabetes who require insulin should be permanently deferred from blood donation... because of concerns regarding diabetes-related complications and an increased risk of hepatitis and other infections if safe injection practices cannot be assured."

Haay Rappler, when will you ever stop spreading "misleading information" ?!

Tho I'm a Nurse & not a Medtech, I'm also triggered by your post.

FYI, kindly read the World Health Organization's BLOOD DONOR SELECTION - Guidelines on Assessing Donor Suitability for Blood Donation.

Some Specific Technical Recommendations:
1. Diabetes- DEFER PERMANENTLY IF REQUIRES INSULIN TREATMENT or has complications with multi-organ involvement -p.56)
2. Acupuncture - defer for 12 mos ff last procedure (p. 68, 90)
3. Allergy - accept if symptom free, DEFER PERMANENTLY if there is history of anaphylaxis (p.57)

Nakoo Rappler, kindly get your facts straight & correct this post. This totally lowered the integrity of your site.

Ay Rappler, wrong info pa more!
