BFP urged to boost fire prevention campaign

PARAÑAQUE CITY -- Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go on Tuesday directed the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to intensify its information campaign after another big fire hit Parañaque City this week.
“This is the second fire (incident) here in Barangay Tambo. First was in Bato, now here in Seaside,” Go told fire victims during his visit to distribute relief goods.

“Alam din natin na meron kampanya ang ating Bureau of Fire, nag-iinform sila. So paigtingin pa lalo para talagang pumasok sa isipan nila na mag-ingat (We all know that the Bureau of Fire has an information campaign. So let us strengthen it so that the people will keep safety in mind),” he added.

Go also urged parents to watch over their children to prevent accidents.

“At sa mga magulang po, huwag niyo hayaan ‘yung mga bata kasi hindi nila alam yung mga ginagawa nila, mga pinag-lalaruan nila, mga kandila, posporo, yung mga gasul. May mga safety measures po sana (To the parents, always keep an eye on your children because they don’t know what they’re doing. They might play with candles, matches, LPG tanks. Let’s put safety measures in place),” he said.

Four people were hurt and around 50 families were affected by the August 26 fire that started at around 7 p.m. It reached the third alarm before being declared out at around 10 p.m.

This came four days after five people were killed in a fire in the same city where 17 families were displaced.

Go personally visited and extended assistance to the fire victims on Tuesday in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

Go thanked government agencies like the National Housing Authority, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, Philippine Gaming Corporation and the OP for providing immediate assistance to the victims.

Duterte’s top aide also committed to giving school shoes and uniforms to the affected children. (OSAP PR)
