President Duterte still calls PH's richest man Manny Villar 'Sir' - But Why?

Rodrigo Duterte is the country's most powerful man. Everyone bows down to him - well, in theory at least - and if there's someone who should be given respect all the time, it is him.

Interestingly, there's actually someone that Duterte still address as 'Sir.' The business tycoon Manny Villar is being regarded by President Duterte as someone worthy of his respect.

But why does he still call Manny Villar 'Sir?' Duterte explains this in an interview years ago.

He is the country's most powerful person but President Rodrigo Duterte still calls bilyonaryo Manny Villar sir.

"When I was a Congressman, ang Speaker namin noon si sir Manny Villar. Kaya ako nagsi-sir sa kanya kasi siya ang aming Speaker," said Duterte who was guest speaker during the launching of Villar's Vista Mall in Iloilo City.

Duterte, who himself prefers to be called “mayor”, was representative of the first district of Davao City under the 11th Congress from 1998 to 2001 while Villar was then Speaker of the House.

Duterte has been profuse in his praise of the Tondo boy.

"Finally, a Filipino has made it big time. Nagiging number one sa housing. And it's everywhere in the Philippines. It's the largest."

"Born out of the desire to do good and give back to our communities, Vista Land Group has been able to put up neighborhoods in over a hundred locations nationwide. Pinaka malaki po. And what is very telling is that it is owned by a Filipino and with the heart," said Duterte.

Duterte was impressed with the Vista Mall Iloilo.

Just recently, Manny Villar was hailed as the richest man in the country which was previously held by the late Henry Sy of SM.

For what it's worth, old habits just don't die. And it's not surprising for someone like Duterte.

Our President is a very cool guy. Just don't do drugs and you'll be in good hands.
