JUST IN: Duterte grants request to make tickets for 2019 SEA Games Free

Tickets for 53 sports in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games will now be given for free, according to the organizers.

On Friday, November 29, Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee (Phisgoc) chairperson and House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said this was the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“As of today, upon instructions of the President, we will release 10,000 tickets to the public [for the closing ceremony]," Cayetano told reporters on the sidelines of the bicameral conference committee meeting on the proposed national budget in 2020.

But tickets for the opening ceremony, the basketball and volleyball tournaments as well as football games of the Philippine team are already sold out. Ticket buyers will not be reimbursed.
Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC) Chairman Alan Peter Cayetano made the announcement Friday amidst calls to make all events be more accessible to the public.

However, basketball, volleyball, and football, will still require ticket purchases. Venues of the said events are the Mall of Asia Arena, PhilSports Arena, the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, and the Binan Football Stadium, respectively.

"We will soon announce the mechanics. Basically, we don't want to create a hassle so we will assign ticketing to the LGUs," Cayetano, who is also House Speaker, told reporters Friday morning.

In addition, Pres. Rodrigo Duterte ordered the PHISGOC to provide 10,000 free tickets out of the 20,000 seats for the closing ceremonies at the Athletics Stadium in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac on December 11.

"So what we will do is that LGUs (local government units) near the venues will be tapped and tickets will be get from them. The other 15,000 in the closing ceremonies will be distributed around the Athletics [Stadium], in Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan," he added.
