JUST IN: Timor Leste finally wins first SEA Games medal; gets bronze in boxing

The wait is over.

Timor Leste finally won its first medal in the Southeast Asian Games courtesy of boxer Jose Barretto Quintas Da Silva on Sunday at the PICC Forum.

Da Silva lost to Thailand's Ammarit Yaodam, 1-4, in the semifinals of the men's flyweight 52kg category. Despite his loss, Da Silva will still be awarded a bronze medal.

On December 3, Timor Leste trended on Philippine Twitter because the country has yet to win a medal in the SEA Games.
Filipinos have been cheering for Timor Leste in their bid for at least one medal in the multi-sporting event.
