DOH confirms 1,046 new COVID-19 cases bringing total to 16,634

The Department of Health reported Friday 1,046 new COVID-19 infections bringing the nationwide tally at 16,634.

Of the new cases recorded, DOH said that only 46 were “fresh cases” or were diagnosed in the past three days.

Meanwhile, the 1,000 other cases were considered as “late cases” as the test results were only released to the patients after more than four days.

DOH explained earlier that the increasing number of daily cases should not be a cause of concern as most of them were diagnosed weeks ago.

On the other hand, 21 deaths were recorded today with the death toll now at 942.

Meanwhile, more patients have recovered from the virus with 122 recorded today bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,720.

The daily report on the new coronavirus cases is usually delivered in the afternoon, however, DOH earlier explained that they need to delay the release of data for a few hours for further validation.
