Adhere to health protocols amid easing restrictions
By Jose Cielito Reganit
MANILA – As the government gradually allows public transportation to operate amid easing quarantine restrictions, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Monday urged commuters not to be complacent and to strictly follow health protocols in order not to put to waste the gains achieved in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

"Kahit na may iilang public transportation services na nag-o-operate na, kung hindi naman kailangan maglakbay, mas maiging manatili na lang po sa bahay. Hindi pa tapos ang laban at kumakalat pa rin ang sakit na ito. Kaya hinihikayat ko ang ating mga kababayan na huwag maging kampante (Even if there are some public transportation services already operating, if there is no need to travel, it is still better to stay home for the meantime. The fight is not yet over and the disease is still spreading. That’s why I am urging our countrymen not to be complacent),” Go said in a statement.

Go urged the public to adhere to health protocols like physical distancing and wearing of face masks.

“Kahit mayroon nang iilang pampublikong transportasyon, hindi ibig sabihin nito na back to normal na po tayo (Even if public transportation is gradually allowed, it does not mean that we are already back to normal),” he added.

The lawmaker from Davao City issued the statements after some 300 modern jeepneys were allowed to start plying Metro Manila roads Monday.

Malacañang said the jeepneys will be supplemented by 3,600 buses to ferry commuters who had been affected by the lack of public transportation after President Rodrigo Duterte further relaxed quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila on June 1.

Meanwhile, Go assured that the government will continually seek to make adjustments to address the transportation needs of the public without compromising their health and safety.

“Malaking tulong sa ating mga kababayan na kailangan magtrabaho ang dahan-dahang pagbukas ng public transportation services. Huwag lang po natin madaliin. Siguraduhin dapat na magagawa ito sa ligtas na paraan (The gradual opening of public transportation services would greatly help our workers. We just don’t need to rush it. We must ensure that we can do it in a safe way),” he said.

The chair of the Senate Health Committee also assured that whatever measures that government will implement in the following days to rejuvenate the economy, livelihoods, education and other sectors of society, Duterte’s prime considerations are the lives and welfare of the Filipino people.

“We have to ensure that the measures being implemented continue to be timely, responsive and decisive considering the best interests of Filipinos,” he said.

“Binabalanse po ni Pangulo ang lahat bilang ama ng bansa, at kapakanan ng pangkalahatan ang nasa isipan nya (As the father of the nation, the President puts everything into balance, and the welfare of the majority is always in his mind),” Go added. (PNA)
